A parent or legal guardian can open SSY for a girl child under 10 years. One account per girl; a family can open maximum two accounts (three in case of twins/triplets).

What is the current SSY interest rate?

8.2% per annum for Q1 FY 2026-27 (April–June 2026). SSY rate is reviewed quarterly by the Government of India. Interest is compounded annually.

What is the minimum and maximum deposit?

Minimum ₹250 per year; maximum ₹1,50,000 per year. Deposits can be made for 15 years from account opening. Account matures when the girl turns 21.

Is SSY tax-free?

Yes — SSY enjoys EEE status. Deposits qualify for Section 80C (up to ₹1.5L, old regime only); interest and maturity are fully tax-free.
